Jrew nodded, but sympathy swelled in her heart. He sounded almost sad when the thanked her, and she knew it was most likely her fault. She suddenly wanted to hug him, do something that would make him feel better. But Caleb would reject it, she was 99 percent positive. I'm not really one for fancy, any way. Her mind traveled back to the hard ground hidden behind the bushes. No, she wasn't a fancy person. Heat flashed up her face an neck; she had nothing to hide it with. Jrew quickly padded towards her bag and picked chapstick from it, putting it on just to wait for her face to return to it's normal color. When she was positive it had, Jrew turned back around and offered a tiny smile to Caleb.

I take another sip of my Dr Pepper before leaning over to place it on the counter. I close the fridge door and open up the freezer, pulling out two boxes of hot pockets. "All I have, unless you want to actually go out somehwere." I say quietly, shrugging my slightly broad shoulders. I place one box ont he counter and let the freezer door shut, dark green eyes skimming over the intructions. I look up to catch Jrew's small smile and force a small grin onto my face before tearing the box open. I toss it onto the counter and rummage through the cupboards for two plates, standing up on my tippy toes to grab two large ones. I set them beside each other, opening the other box distractedly. It was obvious my mind was elsewhere- back in that night two months ago, to what had led to Jrew being back on my doorstep today.

Jrew sat down in a chair, crossing her legs and tapping her fingers on her knee. She didn't know what else to do. It wasn't like she could bust out in random conversation, or dance. Dancing had always calmed her and she hoped one of her kids would also take up the habit. But, most likely not. No one had ever seen her dance except for Gale, and that was on an accident. She looked at the small flowers patterned on her dress and started to trace them with her hand, then she started to hum softly. The awkward situation was slowly getting better, but Jrew doubted she would ever be completely comfortable with Caleb after as little as one conversation after two months. She had wished, in fact, that it would go well.

I toss the boxes into the trash and tear the plastic wrapping off the hot pockets, placing them inside their little sheaths. I place two on each plate, sticking one plate into the microwave. I press 3-1-5, a beep coming from the machine with each number. I busy myself fixing up the other two hot pockets before leaning casually against the counter, my dark green eyes on Jrew. "You can have the first two." I offer, shrugging my shoulders. I tap my fingers along the counter to the beat of Little Shocks by the Kaiser Chiefs as the song ran through my head. "I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't, I wish I could have you just a little bit more just a little bit more of your time." I sing under my breath, looking down at my feet as I did so. I look back over at Jrew, wanting to say or do something to get her attention, make her stay.

Jrew looked up, listening to the words she sang. I wish I could give you undivided attention every minute of the day but I can't. She sang after he did, but her last words were cut off by laughter. Her singing voice wasn't the best in the world. Don't laugh at my singing. Jrew warned, pointing her manicured index finger at him. The tension, in her mind, had left. She was back in her comfort zone- all joking and no seriousness. Her blue eyes lightened, shoulders lifted and chin up. None of her worries before were surfacing now, it was just her and Caleb, friends, admitted reluctantly, joking over hot pockets on a hot July day. A smile morphed her face into something pleasant.

I smile bitterly as she sings after me, the words the same but their meaning different. Jrew probably didnt mean anything by them, when I did. "Im not." I reply, chuckling and holding up my hands as if caught red handed. I jump as the microwave beeps and open the door, pulling out the plate. I make a face at how how it is and pull a magnetic timer off the fridge to set it for four minutes to give them time to cool off. I slide them out of their packets onto the plate, turning the timer on as I stick my two hot pockets into the microwave, three beeps following. My dark green eyes look over at Jrew, a smile on her face. Her dress really was cute, her flower head band making her look like a princess. I walk over to lean against the island counter top, keeping my eyes fixed on Jrew's lighter green ones. I hesitate slightly, she wasnt that far from me. Only two feet, I could close it in a second. I mentally steele myself before taking a step towards where she sat on a tall bar stool, closing my eyes as I tentatively pressed my lips to hers. Last time I'd done this everything had gone to hell.

Jrew watched him switch out the hot pockets and laughed to herself. She had never let them cool before eating. Her eyes followed him wearily, and she almost got up to 'go to the bathroom' when it finally clicked what Caleb was going to do. A shudder ran through her body when his lips met hers, a familiar feeling. Though if it was welcome or unwelcome, she didn't know that. Right at the moment someone normally would pull away out of lack of reaction, Jrew kissed him back. First slowly, then she tipped her chin up to better meet his lips, hands supporting her on the side of her chair. Last time he had kissed her, Jrew freaked out. At hat time she still felt hate of herself, but now, in a normal and sober state, it felt nice to have a sweet kiss.

She doesnt pull away, which I decide to take as a good sign. After a couple moments when Jrew doesnt react, Im about to pull back when she finally kisses my back. She tilts her face up to mine, her lips meeting mine more on center. The kiss wasnt exactly shy, though it certainly wasnt forceful. This certainly wasn a way I would've imagined kissing Jrew again; at my kitchen island with the smell of hot pockets surrounding us, the hum of the microwave in the background. The beep of the microwave eventually forces me back into reality and I draw away, giving her a smile as I ambled over to pull my plate of hot pockets out of the microwave, a slight swagger in my step. I place Jrew's plate in front of her and sit down beside her on the other stool.

Jrew smiled back at Caleb. She promptly looked down at her lap and fumbled with her hands. Her mission in coming here wasn't to kiss Caleb again, she had planned on hearing more trashy names come from his mouth, maybe another right hook. But, things were so different. She looked up as a plate clanked in front of her and she poked one of them. Now she wasn't hungry. Jrew did, however, eat one of them. After she had, her blue gaze went back to Caleb. I hadn't planned for this. She offered meekly, looking down again. This wasn't a comfortable conversation for her, like there wasn't anything protecting her. It was either hurt or a lifetime of happiness, neither to certain.

I wait for two minutes to pass before I eat my hot pockets, time spent watching Jrew. I didnt say a word, I didnt want to talk about what had just happened, as if talking about it would make it unreal, not true. As if it had never happened. I sincerely didnt want that to happen, no way. I take a couple more bites of my hot pocket, grimacing as hot cheese hot on my thumb. I lick it off, hoping my terrible table manners wouldnt put Jrew off. I chuckle softly as she finally spoke up, shaking my head. "I didnt either." I agree, looking down at my palte ebfore taking another bite, chewing slowly. "Where does this leave us?" I ask queitly, keeping my dark green eyes fixed downward.

Jrew shook her head and looked up at Caleb, even though he wasn't looking at her. I don't know, Caleb. She breathed a heavy sigh and broke apart her hot pocket, but didn't eat it. Instead she pushed it away from her. A bird flew to the kitchen window, pecked the glass then flew away again. It was the same color of yellow as the bird under the tree at the park. Jrew watched where it had been for a minute and then turned back to Caleb as if to ask him if he'd seen it too, but she just offered him a smile. Jrew dropped her head on his shoulder. We just go as it goes.

~time travel 3 months~ Jrew had made a proper man out of me, I guess you could say. I cooked, learned to clean better, and she'd trained me to put the toilet seat down. We'd grown closer after she'd told me she was pregnant, that day she'd come to my doorstep in her flowered dress. A months or so ago we'd officially started dating, and she'd moved in- obviously. There was nothing in the apartment anymore that really screamed 'bachelor'. There was even a vase of flowers on the kictehn island. Given, they were fake, but still a grade up. I run a hand through my hair as I rummage through the kitchen, half bent over as I pawed through the meat drawer. I pull out some hamburger and move over to check the cupboard- burgers it was. If Jrew felt like it, sometimes I'd have to drastically change dinner plans to go along with whatever she was craving in that second. "Jrew, babe, what do you want for dinner?" I call, sticking the hamburger back and popping my head out from around the kitchen door to look into the living room.

Jrew had made huge changes in Caleb and his apartment since they had officially started dating. It made him seem more grown up, less like the guy who's nose she'd broken five months ago. Every now and then Gale would come visit, though he thought Caleb was a pompous ass. After the two almost getting in a fight, Jrew would visit Gale at his new home with a girlfriend. She was watching Lion King, eating a bowl of vanilla ice cream with a jar of dill pickles beside her. Her eyes had drooped closed several times, and right when Caleb called, she was glad to have a reason to get up. Jrew stood, her swollen belly still giving her issues. Being five months pregnant with twins wasn't fun. The shirt she wore was folded up over the baby bump and her board shorts didn't go over it. As she ambled into the kitchen, shirt now unfolded and hand pressed over her belly button. Doesn't matter. She mumbled padding to the sink and grabbing a class of water, looking out the window.

She walks- or more waddles- into the kitchen, grabbing a glass and filling it with water from the tap. "Huh. First time I've heard that in a while." I reply, chuckling playfully. I take the hamburger back out, ripping some wax paper off the roll. I spin the spice rack around and pull out garlic powder, garlic salt, and onion powder. I place them off to the side before hip bumping Jrew out of the way to wash my hands. I grab a towel and toss it back on the counter before rolling up the sleeves of my grey flannel American Eagle shirt. I tear open the package of hamburger and tear some off, rolling it into a ball before flattening it out on the wax paper, starting again with the next one. "What do you want to go with?" I ask, looking over at Jrew over my shoulder.

Jrew turned around after Caleb hip bumped her, popping his shoulder playfully. Her eyes followed him and she almost barfed at the appearance of onions. Maybe she was still craving. But she didn't say anything. Caleb had been dodging left and right for her lately and Jrew felt a little bad about it. She walked beside him and put her forehead between his shoulder blades, hooking her fingers through the back belt loops of his pants. I hope you know I'm craving pancakes right now and I'm completely going along with your dinner plans because you deserve it. She smiled, even though Caleb couldn't see her. Jrew bumped her head against his back softly a few times, giving herself something to do.
